Just Because Card (Part 6)

I guess this would be a repeat, since I am sending this card to my sister! It is always nice to receive something in the mail that is not a bill! This card really came together by trying to clean up my desk of scrap paper. I just cut a bunch of squares and stuck them all together to make this card, 10 mins top! Also, I am participating in a challenge called Share Handmade Kindness. The challenge is from the very wonderful and talented Jennifer Mcguire ( I speak of her as if she's my BFF! My husband knows who I am talking about when I say Jennifer!! But she is the first person I started following when I started my crafting venture and she always inspires me to continue to be crafty!) SO, I think I got a head start on the challenge, since I started sending my "Just Because" cards back in March! Now I just have more motivation to continue! I will link to her challenge below. Here is the card:

I cut 4 "hello" to be able to create some dimension to the word
After all 4 layers are glued together

Added glossy accents to give the "hello" some shine.

Materials Used:
  • Scrap paper in beige, white, green polka dots and craft color
  • Paper Smooches Hello die
  • DCWV- Latte (box of cards) A2 format
  • Glossy Accents
  • DCWV- Gauze paper stack 6X6 sheet

Just Because Card (Part 5)

Very fall color card! This one is for another of my aunts. This is the second shaker card I have made and it is not that difficult. It adds a lot of dimension to your card and it's fun! Simple layout and simple colors. Next time I will use anti-static paper on the acetate window, currently the glitter is sticking to the acetate paper.

 Craft foam
The "hello" is the same color as the background.
I used distress ink to change the tone.

  • Die-namics, cross-stitch squares
  • Cuttlebug machine
  • Craft Foam
  • Stampendous- Acetate Paper
  • Recollections- metallic iridescent glitter shapes
  • Recollections- card and envelope 4 X 5.5 in

Thank you card

This card will be going to my current manager at work. I am moving positions, so I wanted to take the time to thank her for giving me my 1st nursing job. She has been extremely supportive. Soooo she is a girl and I decided to use the same pink colors and paper I used on my last card. This was fast and easy to make. I think making the bow took me longer than doing the entire card.

Materials Used:
  • Cuttlebug machine by Provo Craft
  • Embossing mat- not sure of name but its little square background
  • Fiskars 1in square punch
  • Inkadinkado- "Thank you" wood stamp
  • Staz On- Jet black ink
  • Twine (this was just laying around, no idea where I got it)
  • Assorted rhinestones
  • Glossy Accents glue

Pink Birthday Card

If you didn't know, I will tell you now...I do not like the color pink. So when I buy packs of cardstock that have pink in them, I try to make the "pinkest" card for a girlfriend to try and get rid of that color! My college friend Christina has a birthday coming up in July, so obviously I made her a very pink card. It is cute and adorable and again very pink! I threw in some white so it would not look awfully pink. Here is the card--

 Final Product:

Materials Used:

  • Studio 490 embossing paste
  • Heidi Swapp 6 x 6 Stencil Set Dot
  • Imagine craft palette knives
  • Pearl Ex- powdered pigments series 2 (blue rosset- I added this to the paste to give it its color, the paste is white normally)
  • White Recollections card & envelope 4in X 5.5 in
  • DCWV "Glitzy Glitter" cardstock stack (pink glitter paper)
  • Recollections white & pink cardstock

Baby Shower

We have a new little arrival coming next month!! Deepak's cousin is expecting her 1st child, a baby girl!! We had her baby shower on June 20th. I was in charge of the wall decorations, so I got busy with lots of pink stuff and made a pretty wall for the event. It was not hard to do, just time consuming. I used the cricut machine to cut out the circles using the Plantin SchoolBook cartridge, the word "baby" was cut out using the Jasmine cartridge and I bought the letters for the "girl" at Michael's - I used mod podge to glue the glitter on. I then used the mod podge spray to seal it. The circles are connected with fishing line. The fabric pom-poms came from Michael's as well.

Everyone loved the decorations and food, so it was a success!! lol. Our cousin got lots of gifts and we are now just waiting for her to arrive! CANT WAIT!!!

Busy June

A lot of things happened in June. I had a birthday!!! Also, we have been very busy fixing up our house. Little projects here and there with a big project coming up next month when Deepak lays down new hardwood floor! I wanted to change the look in the front of the house, so I asked Deepak to pain the shutters and door black. It was not an easy task and I was scared to death when he had to climb the ladder to get the shutter from the 2nd floor. Here is how it came out:

We are still painting the inside of the house, we have to repaint the deck in the back and get a new vanity and toilet for the half bath downstairs......then we will be done!! Home ownership is fun!

I needed new placemats for our outdoor retreat, the current ones we have now are plastic and I do not like them. So I made some to match with our decor, which is tranquil beach theme! This is by far the easiest sewing project I have done. It does not take that long to make and you will have custom placemats that will match perfectly with your decor.

  • I used 1 yard of upholstery fabric which gave me 4 placemats (you want something sturdy and durable, you can also use outdoor fabric)
  • Ribbon for decoration
  • Matching threat
  • Sewing machine
Measurements and instructions:
  • I cut my placemats 17 wide by 12.5 length. You need 2 panels for each placemat
  • I left a 1/4 seem allowance
  • To place the ribbon in the middle I used the zig-zag stitch to help reduce fraying. The ribbon is 2.5 inches wide. I placed the ribbon between 5-7.5 in on my mat, which placed it in the center.
  • Place both panels facing right side and stitch along all sides, leaving about 4-5 inches open to be able to turn the mat right side.
  • Once turned right side facing out, iron well and sew all the way around and very closed to the border to close the open gap and give it a nice finished look.

White Ink Stamping

This is a "Thank You" card for my friend that dog-sat while we were on vacation. I wanted something simple but something that still made an impression. Sorry for the first 2 pictures, the lighting is awful.

I used washi tape to mask off the middle area. I alternated stamps up and down to make the design.
I used a ruler and my versamark ink pen to draw the 2 lines and used white embossing powder.
This is the real color of the card and final product!

  • StazOn- Cotton White
  • VersaMark Ink pad and pen
  • Stampendous Embossing Powder- White Opaque
  • Hero Art Clear Stamp (1) Birthday Message (2) Layered Flowers
  • I used 2 other stamp sets but not sure of brand or name of set for the extra flowers
  • Recollections Card 4 X 5.5 in
  • Craft cardstock
  • Studio g rubber stamp set
  • Recollection Pear Embellishment
